Paris: Punk-House Publishing Ltd., c.1985. Vinyl LP. Very Good +. Manson, Charles. The Love and Terror Cult. Paris: Punk-House Publishing Ltd., c.1985. LP, black vinyl with original inner and outer sleeves. The LP is fine, the outer sleeve has light rubbing, corner creases and some splitting on the top and bottom edges. This album of folk and experimental folk songs was recorded by Manson in 1967 and 1968 and released as Lie: The Love and Terror Cult as a legal aid fund-raiser in 1970 by record producer Phil Kaufman. The album has since been reissued, legitimately and otherwise, every few years since. This bootleg version is faithful to the original with only redesigned cover art. Tracks include: “Look at Your Game Girl” (later recorded by Guns n’ Roses), “Ego,” “Mechanical Man” (“I am a mechanical man/mechanical man/and I do the best I can/because I have my family...”), “People Say I’m No Good,” “Home is Where You’re Happy,” “Arkansas,” “I’ll Never Say Never to Always,” “Garbage Dump,” “Don’t Do Anything Illegal,” “Cease to Exist” (if there was a hit single from this album, this would be it, a version of which was released by the Beach Boys under the title “Never Learn Not To Love” on the 1969 album 20/20), “Big Iron Door,” “I Once Knew A Man,” and “Eyes of a Dreamer.” If you didn’t know it was Manson, a couple of these songs are fairly good, but it’s hard to get past the creepy psychopathic murderer vibe.
