Do you buy books?
We are interested in purchasing well-defined collections of fine books, estates and private libraries. If you have a collection that fits these categories, please call Gabe to set up an appointment. We are particularly interested in collections and archives related to books about books, bookplates, African art and ritual, motorcycles and bike culture, and political- and music-based social movements including punks, mods and skins.
Are the books listed on this site all you have?
Not even close. We have thousands of books waiting to be listed online and books that have been set aside for shows and future catalogs. If you have a special request, please let us know what you're looking for and we'll be happy to search the stacks.
How do you pack your books?
We wrap our books in packing paper or bubble wrap and ship them in boxes or cardboard wraps. We never use plastic bags. We want our books to arrive in the same condition as we’ve described them.
Do you have a brick and mortar shop?
Not any more. Bay Leaf Books had a retail location, first in Sand Lake and then in Newaygo, Michigan, for ten years. We sold that business in January of 2017 and it is now open with new owners and a new name, Flying Bear Books. CLICK HERE to visit their Facebook page.
Do you issue catalogs?
Yes, we issue occasional print and electronic catalogs on various subjects. You can view our most recent lists on our CATALOGS page. To receive notifications of future lists, please email us.
Can you email additional images?
We are happy to send images of a book’s exterior and author signatures if they are not included with our listing. However, we will not send scans or photographs of individual pages or plates or high-resolution images.
What are your specialties?
While we run a general stock operation – meaning we stock all variety of fiction and non-fiction – we do have a special interest in—and actively buy and sell—bookplates, books-on-books, radical social movements, motorcycles, and African art and ritual.
How long has Bay Leaf Books been around?
Gabe has been selling books via catalogs and specialty shows since 1994, including ten years as a brick and mortar shop.
Are you a member of the ABAA?
Yes, Gabe is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the Independent Online Booksellers Association, and the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association. Gabe is also an alumnus and active supporter of the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS).
Can I email if I have some general questions about book collecting and rare books?
While we’re happy to answer questions about the books we offer for sale, we do not have the staff to answer general questions. Instead, take a look at the ABAA’s FAQ on book values and collecting.
Do you appraise books?
We no longer offer written appraisals, though we can help you find a qualified appraiser that specializes in your area of collecting.
Do you do book repairs?
No, book repair and binding is best left to professional conservators and binders. We can highly recommend Wiering Books in Grand Rapids, Michigan for all your restoration needs.
